Increasing Generating Efficiency
Motogenerator No 2 Sulzer SAL25D-1250-50,
8 cylinders, 1250 KVA at "White Swan"
The "White Swan" vessel had weak cylinder compression in the diesel engine of generator #2, a Sulzer SAL-25D/230, 8 cylinders after almost 2,800 hours of a general overhaul. The engine was treated with Rewitec Nano Coating. Decisive for a successful motor treatment was the equalization of compression in cylinders to regain the lost power. Compression was measured before the treatment and after 300 hours of operation. Here are the values:
| Cylinder | Compression Before(Bar) | Compression After(Bar) | Improvement(Bar) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 27 | 30 | 3 |
| 2 | 26 | 30 | 4 |
| 3 | 24 | 29.5 | 5.5 |
| 4 | 28 | 29.5 | 1.5 |
| 5 | 26 | 26 | 0 |
| 6 | 25 | 30 | 5 |
| 7 | 28 | 30 | 2 |
| 8 | 18 | 28 | 10 |
| Average | 25.2 | 29.1 | 3.9 |
Increased power, generation efficiency, and reliability were the benefits of the average compression improvement of 15%. This was an amazing result for the shipping company since they could not achieve this result with the general overhaul.
