Separator Gears: Rewitec Surface Treatment Saves Maintenance
CHALLENGE
The technical Manager for a large container vessel was concerned about the high wear on separator gears that occurred in a very short time. Its replacement every 3 months and the related services were very expensive.
These gears were coated with the Rewitec Surface Treatment. The goal was to reduce the damage in the teeth working surface and to prevent new wear and damage.
OUTCOME
Four months after coating, the gears were still working without problems. The gear teeth were analyzed and photographed.

Gear surfaces, which were extremely worn out, were now smooth and with a visible new coating. The area that was previously damaged was noticeable, but was now smooth with almost no dents.
RESULTS
As of September 2006, the same set of gears pictured above is still in service after 24 months since the Rewitec Surface Treatment.
Over this period, the company avoided changing 8 sets of gears. Savings in new gear sets, repair, and maintenance services amount to $20,000 a year.
